PARENTAL SUPPORT FOR GCSE PREPARATION

Parental support is essential in determining a child’s academic success. Your support, encouragement and interest can make a spectacular difference to your child’s motivation and ability to cope with the academic and organisational demands of the exam period.

To help parents and carers support their children in preparation for their Year 11 GCSEs, we held a GCSE Parent Workshop in Year 10 and Year 11. The workshops covered the following key topics and the PowerPoints are available below:

  • Student Wellbeing – tests and exams can be a challenging part of school life for students and their families. This workshop will look at ways to ease the stress

  • Revision Techniques – there are many different revision techniques to help students create a timetable plan and revise their subjects

  • English Support – tips and techniques specific to English revision

  • Maths Support – tips and techniques specific to Maths revision, including Sparx Maths

  • Digital Revision Tips – a vast range of digital platforms and websites are available to support students; some are better than others. This session will cover the digital platforms we recommend and how to get the most from them

  • College Applications - advice and guidance on completing college applications

Revision Guides

A good revision guide can be an invaluable resource; therefore, we have purchased the appropriate GCSE Revision Guides/ Workbooks at a reduced cost to support families and students. If you have difficulties accessing ParentPay, please contact Mrs Rolling, Finance Officer, by email at j.rolling@honley.tlt.school or by telephone at 01484 506484.

In Year 10, students eligible for free school meals receive the revision guides at no cost. If you feel your child is eligible and hasn't received their revision guides, don't hesitate to contact Mrs Roby, Assistant Headteacher – Personal Development, at e.roby@honley.tlt.school.
